TIPITCH at ISTH 2026: Harnessing Haematology to Drive Innovation in Haemorrhagic Stroke

In mid-July, several members of the RHU TIPITCH consortium attended #ISTH2026 (International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis) in Paris, a leading global conference for research in thrombosis, haemostasis, and bleeding disorders.

Among the highlights, Charlotte Bocquet, a PhD student within the project under the supervision of Prof. Annabelle Dupont, presented a poster on the characterisation of rivaroxaban-associated intracerebral haematomas using an ex vivo model replicating the MISTIE procedure. This work is fully aligned with the objectives of WP2, dedicated to improving minimally invasive haematoma evacuation strategies.

Prof. Annabelle Dupont, co-lead of WP2, also delivered a well-received oral presentation on the identification of the SLC35D3 gene as a novel causative gene in a rare inherited platelet disorder. This multidisciplinary study combined cellular biology, electron microscopy, structural modelling and in silico analyses, with a notable contribution from Mickael Rosa.

TIPITCH’s presence at ISTH perfectly illustrates one of the project’s key strengths: bringing together world-class expertise at the intersection of haematology, neurology, imaging, fundamental research, and therapeutic innovation. We are proud to count among our consortium internationally recognised experts whose work is advancing knowledge far beyond the field of haemorrhagic stroke.

Beyond the scientific presentations, ISTH provided an excellent opportunity to share project advances, discuss findings with international experts, and strengthen links between basic, translational, and clinical research.

A Prestigious Recognition for a TIPITCH Project Member

The RHU TIPITCH project extends its warmest congratulations to Prof. Aymeric Rouchaud (Limoges University Hospital, CNRS), leader of Work Package 1, on his appointment to the Institut Universitaire de France (IUF) in the Innovation category for the 2026 cohort.

This national distinction recognises an outstanding scientific career at the crossroads of interventional neuroradiology, translational research and technological innovation, all dedicated to improving patient care.

Within TIPITCH, Prof. Rouchaud leads a key work package focused on intervening during the earliest stages of intracerebral haemorrhage to limit haematoma expansion, a critical challenge in improving patient outcomes.

As he himself emphasises, this recognition is first and foremost a collective achievement, reflecting the commitment of all the teams involved — researchers, engineers, clinicians and early-career scientists — who work every day to advance research and innovation.

Congratulations to Prof. Aymeric Rouchaud on this well-deserved distinction, which also highlights the pivotal role of French research in driving the development of innovative healthcare solutions.

TIPITCH Researchers Publish Innovative Work on Intracerebral Haematoma Evacuation

The RHU TIPITCH project is proud to highlight the work of Dr Nourou Dine A. Bankole, PhD, conducted under the supervision of Prof. Grégoire Boulouis, Prof. Marco Pasi and Dr Ilyess Zemmoura (Tours University Hospital).

Their article, recently published in the journal Neurochirurgie, presents an innovative technical note on optimising the management of intracerebral haematomas using an ultrasound-guided minimally invasive technique (HUG-MIS).

This work makes a valuable contribution by describing an approach that could improve the safety, precision and effectiveness of haematoma evacuation, a key challenge in the management of patients with haemorrhagic stroke.

Congratulations to Nourou Dine A. Bankole and his supervisors on this publication, which perfectly illustrates the innovation-driven momentum of TIPITCH and the commitment of the teams at Tours University Hospital, a key partner of the project.

Inauguration of the 7‑Tesla MRI at Lille University Hospital: a major step forward for TIPITCH

On 28 April, Lille University Hospital (CHU de Lille), lead institution of the RHU TIPITCH project, inaugurated its 7‑Tesla MRI scanner—an exceptional piece of equipment opening up unprecedented opportunities for clinical research in neuroscience and neurovascular diseases.

This ultra‑high‑resolution imaging technology represents a major strategic asset for the TIPITCH project – Transforming the prognosis of haemorrhagic stroke.

A key lever to better understand haemorrhagic stroke
Within TIPITCH, the 7T MRI will be used to:

🔹 Identify new imaging biomarkers of peri‑haematomal oedema following intracerebral haemorrhage
🔹 Improve the identification of patients at risk of severe disease progression
🔹 Refine predictions of functional outcome, a central challenge for personalised patient care

The ambition: to enhance anticipation and clinical decision‑making through ultra‑high‑precision imaging.

Regional victory for Guillaume RENEDO: heading to the national final!

We are extremely proud to congratulate Guillaume Renedo, a PhD candidate involved in the RHU TIPITCH project, who has brilliantly won the regional final of Ma Thèse en 180 secondes, held in Limoges on 23 April.

Double distinction:
➡️ First Prize – Jury Award
➡️ Audience Award

Thanks to this outstanding performance, Guillaume will represent Nouvelle‑Aquitaine at the national final, which will take place in Lille on 28 May 2026.

A demanding PhD topic, explained with clarity and conviction

Among 18 PhD candidates from higher education institutions across the region, Guillaume stood out for the quality, pedagogy and accessibility of his presentation, focusing on his PhD research:

“Numerical simulation of intraparenchymal haemorrhage: from in silico modelling to the development of an innovative endovascular device.”

This work lies at the very heart of the ambitions of the TIPITCH project, combining numerical modelling, technological innovation and clinical challenges related to haemorrhagic stroke.

Onwards to the national final

This qualification marks entry into the final stage of a high‑level science communication competition, where Guillaume will proudly represent his region, his field of research and French translational research on the national stage.

Post‑Stroke Conference in Tours: Key Takeaways from March 31

On March 31, at MAME Tours – the City of Creativity and Innovation, a conference dedicated to post‑stroke care was held, organized by the CHRU of Tours in partnership with the University of Tours and with the support of the TIPITCH project.

This event was a true success in many respects: ◾ the choice of a crucial and still too rarely discussed topic: life after the acute phase of stroke;
◾ a full conference room, reflecting strong interest in the subject;
◾ a wide diversity of participants brought together: healthcare professionals (medical, paramedical, and social care), stroke survivors, caregivers, institutions, patient associations, and citizens engaged with these issues;
◾ and above all, the richness and authenticity of the discussions among women and men committed to continuously improving long‑term care and support for people affected by stroke.

Within the RHU TIPITCH project, we are particularly proud to support this initiative led by the CHRU of Tours, a key project partner and leader of Work Package 4, dedicated to the establishment of a national cohort and the creation of a brain imaging core analysis center.
This event perfectly illustrates an approach that places patients at the heart of both clinical practice and research thinking.
